Restorative Dentistry
Fillings
Fillings are used to restore tooth structure to its natural shape and function. They are needed due to decay (cavities) or fractures. The process for a filling involves the dentist cleaning out and/or removing the “bad” parts of the tooth and filling the affected areas with material. That material can either be the traditional silver kind or the white material that matches the existing tooth structure. The type of material used is determined by different factors including location and size of the filling.
Crowns & Bridges
A crown is a type of restoration that is used to cover to an entire tooth that has been damaged by fracture or decay. It is also commonly known as a “cap.” Crowns can be made out of several different materials in a wide range of shades to create a natural look. A crown is recommended for a number of reasons:
- To restore a tooth where the majority of it has been damaged by decay or fracture
- To protect a tooth that has been treated with a root canal
- To cover a dental implant
- As part of a bridge
At Newberry Family Dental, we are proud to offer same-day crown services by having a CEREC machine. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It uses a 3D scanner, milling machine, and oven to create crowns that match the shape and size of your other teeth. This helps to create a restoration that is highly personalized. (need to add the link to info from their website. Will do at a later date)
A bridge is a series of crowns used to fill in gaps caused by missing teeth. Bridges help to restore the look and function of your teeth and smile.
Dentures & Partials
These removable appliances are custom-made and are replacements for missing teeth. They help to improve your smile in both appearance and function. Dentures and partials also help patients to eat and speak more easily. Dentures replace an entire arch of teeth. They are made of acrylic and are made to look like your natural teeth. Partials are made to replace just a few missing teeth and are made of flexible materials, acrylic, or a combination of acrylic and metal.
Implants
A traditional dental implant is a means to replace missing teeth or to hold a denture in place. An implant is a metal post or frame that is surgically placed in the jawbone beneath your gums. This is usually done by an oral surgeon. If the implant is being used to replace a missing tooth, the metal post serves as the root of the tooth and then a crown is placed on top of the post to finish the implant. Dr. Newberry is able to offer same-day crown services with the CEREC machine.
Mini Dental Implants
Newberry Family Dentistry works with Shaktin F.I.R.S.T to offer mini-dental implants to our patients. These implants are less invasive, less expensive, and less time- consuming than traditional implants. As the name implies, mini implants are smaller than traditional ones and can be used in areas where a traditional implant would not be ideal. As with traditional implants, mini implants can be used to replace single or multiple missing teeth and can also be used to hold a denture in place.
